Why Pilates?
Pilates was developed by Joseph H. Pilates (1881-1967). After 70 years, the exercises which form this technique continue to be popular and successful. It is the fitness secret of dancers, athletes and other elite professionals. It is a non-impact, balanced system that works as well for the very beginner, the very fit, the injured and the older exerciser.
Pilates works all the muscles in the body. The Matwork which is done all on the floor and the equipment (Reformer, Stability Chair), where the exercises are performed with spring loaded resistance, work the deeper muscles to achieve efficient simultaneous stretching and strengthening. It improves alignment, posture and body awareness. Pilates promotes lengthening and stability of the spine.
Pilates integrates the mind-body connection and has research-based mental health benefits, including statistically significant reductions of depression, anxiety and fatigue symptoms, and increases in energy.
